Geocache Description:


The cache is not hidden at the above location which is a bridge over the old Shanklin to Ventnor railway line

In the days before the second world war, when the summers were long and Dr Beaching still had a heart, a small boy called Tom used love to run up the hill after school, climb up onto the fence beside the railway and wave to the engine driver and fireman as the trains chugged under the bridge. Tom used to enjoy watching the trains steam out into the countryside till they disappear round the corner as they headed towards Whitwell.

In those heady days Tom could never have guessed that in less than a hundred years a geocache would have been hidden so close to where he stood watching the trains go by. If only Tom understood the simple cipher or the equally simple mathematics that made Global Positioning Satellites possible.
