About the film:
THE PAPER, made in 1994 is a fun film about journalistic passion. Henry Hackett (played by Michael Keaton) is the editor of a New York City tabloid. He is a workaholic who loves his job, but the long hours and low pay are beginning to take its toll on the patience of his pregnant wife (Marisa Tomei) and former reporter of his. Add to that, his publisher Bernie (played by Robert Duvall) who is facing financial straits, and has authorized Henry's nemesis, Alicia Clark (played by Glenn Close) to impose unpopular cutbacks. So when an offer from a real, big-time newspaper is put on the table for Henry to consider just when a hot story falls in his lap, some tough decisions need to be made. Great flick with a fantastic supporting cast directed by the always impressive Ron Howard. Favorite line: “Stop the Presses!”
