Geocache Description:

** This is a new listing. The old cache has been archived to make room for the Erie Bayfront highway Geo-Trail. Same creek but much different location.**

Cascade Creek is a small creek that runs through the City of Erie. It is tubed through part of the City. Cascade Creek empties into Presque Isle Bay just west of the Niagara Pier condominiums. In 1813, Daniel Dobbins established a shipyard at the mouth of the creek where the flagships Lawrence and Niagara were built. The military shipyard later became a commercial boat building center. The western dock, where U.S. Navy "Yard Ferry Class" ships were built during World War II, continued as a shipbuilding and repair facility until the 1980's.

Cascade Creek itself has enjoyed a renaissance with local environmental groups having improved water quality to the point where trout have returned to the watercourse. Please be courteous, clean and respectful of the area. This area receives a lot of visitors. Please use stealth when retrieving the cache. Please rehide the cache at least as good as you found it.

Don't forget to bring a camera!
