Geocache Description:

This cache is a small 'clip and seal' container with enough room to hold Geocoins, Travelbugs and other small items :) This Cache has been placed with permission of the Lochaber Forest District. It is important that you please remember to take all rubbish away with you and respect the environment.

Glencoe Lochan is located North of the Glencoe village and at the foot of the Pap of Glencoe, (locally know as 'The Pap'). The Lochan is a great place to walk thanks to the well maintained paths that surround the water. There are also other tracks that will take you through the forest surrounding the Lochan that vary in difficulty because of more challenging terrain and/or gradients. The Lochan is a result of Donald Alexander Smith, the Lord of Strathcona and his wife, Isabella Sophia Hardisty moving to Glencoe from Canada after Lord Strathcona acquired the Glencoe estate in the late 19th Century. His wife became very homesick, so in an attempt to make her feel more at home, he dug the Lochan and created the woodland that surrounds it. After all this effort however, it did not help her overcome her homesickness.
