A history troll lives under this bridge. Here is what he has to say:
Near the cache you’ll see a marker that says “SURVEY MONUMENT OF THE P. B. MURPHY PROPERTY. SURVEY MADE BY F. F. FLOURNOY APR 1912.” Seventy- four years ago there lived a woman named Ruth Kerr. She owned the highly successful Kerr Jar Company, from which she made a lot of money. She used her money to found Westmont College in Los Angeles. Her college grew so much that she spent $175,000 on a clubhouse and golf course to relocate to. Sadly, the citizens of Altadena formed their largest ever meeting and voted to not let Kerr build a College there. Desperate for a place for her college, Kerr saw the Peter Henry Murphy Estate, originally owned by the father of Dwight Murphy. She walked up to the door and knocked, and she said “Hello, my name is Ruth Kerr, and I am interested in buying this estate. I would like to build a college here.” The owner said “We were just talking about putting this on the market! How did you know?”
