Geocache Description:

Part of the Gaps series - simple caches highlighting hidden gem locations in Canberra. Filling in the gaps!

==The Area==

The suburb of Turner is named after George Turner, one of the founders of Australia's constitution, a premier of Victoria and the treasurer of the first Commonwealth Government. The streets of Turner are mainly named after writers, legislators and pioneers.

Hackett Garden is named after Sir John Winthrop Hackett, a Federation pioneer from WA. He was the editor of the West Australian newspaper, and an "educationalist and philanthropist".

Hackett Garden is a circuit street surrounding a small park, complete with a children's playground and a number of benches.

A small dais in the park commemorates the book Wombat Stew by Marcia Vaughn, a classic work for children which in 2009 celebrated it's 25th anniversary.

"Gooey, brewy, yummy, chewy wombat stew!"

The garden is a haven for birds of all kinds - while scouting the location I spotted magpies, galahs, crimson rosellas, eastern rosellas and a virtual army of cockatoos, all happily scavenging for food side by side. The park also has a spectacular view of Black Mountain and the Telstra Tower.

==The Cache==
The cache is a standard 200ml Sistema clip-lock container, camouflaged with tape and inside a camno-pattern cotton bag. It contains the usual logbook and pencil, and there's room for small swaps.
