This is our first cache placed at the church our family has attended for Five Generations. It is located just off a paved path and should be an easy find.
NO NIGHT CACHING PLEASE
The cache is placed near a unique set of outdoor stations, The grottos were constructed in 1945 thru 1947 by Joseph Kuhn (my great uncle), on the grounds of St Fidelis Seminary now Summit Academy. The construction took years to unfold. The stone for the grottos were donated by neighboring friends of the seminary, the seminary faculty and student volunteers planned the work, dug the holes for the grotto foundations hauled the stones and landscaped the area. The images in the grottos were designed by Pittsburgh Artists Frank Aretz and M.Lee Kennedy. The images are carved in Indiana limestone and housed in the grottos of native stone. The stations were dedicated on May 25,1947. In Sept. of 2001 Fr. Lester Knoll became interested in moving the stations, he ask Summit Academy if we could have them and they said yes. Now the big question was how to move them, each stone grotto weighed between 12 and 14 ton. The Bauer brothers (grandsons of Joseph Kuhn)prepared the ground. After clearing the base a sling was placed around each stone grotto, the crane then lifted the massive grotto onto a waiting truck, which hauled them to their current spot. Enjoy the peacefulness of this area. Please respect the area and stay on the walkway until the GPS tells you to turn off.
