Newton is the only pre-Revolutionary county seat in New Jersey where the court house occupies its original site fronting a town square or “green.” This square, the only county park land in Sussex County, includes a 90-ton Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument, a gazebo, numerous park benches, and the Sussex County Veterans Memorial Garden. The intricately arranged plantings in this garden reflect the colors of the following branches of the military: the Army in black and gold, the Navy in blue and gold, the Marine Corps in scarlet and gold, the Air Force in blue and silver, the Coast Guard in white, orange, and blue, and the Merchant Marines in blue and gold. The Sussex County Master Gardeners volunteer their time in maintaining this garden.
While not the most tranquil setting (daytime traffic is a constant), it is a beautiful and historic place to visit and reflect upon the Town’s past (also check out www.newtonnj.net), the dedication of our servicewomen and men, and the sacrifices made to preserve our freedom.
You are looking for an urban camo nano/micro in a super-high muggle area. Parking is available at metered spaces adjacent to the north side of the square, as well as along Spring Street and throughout town. Tweezers may be necessary to extract the log. Please put the cache back exactly where you found it and remember to BYOWI.
