Located in Carlisle, the little town with the big heart, near the local National Guard Armory. There is a parking lot available and the cache is located on public property.
B Battery, 2nd Battalion, 138th Field Artillery, a Kentucky National Guard Unit based in Carlisle, Kentucky was mobilized to Iraq in June of 2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. B BTRY 2/138th FA deployed with 184 soldiers and their assigned mission was to provide convoy security. This small unit needed a larger team for the mission and built it with soldiers who volunteered from more than 20 different units and from 52 of the 120 counties in Kentucky.
Upon arrival in Iraq, B BTRY 2/138th FA managed the largest convoy security element for the 1103rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, the largest battalion in theater. The unit successfully executed 140 missions, drove 299,538 miles and left the forward operation base 1,050 times. These missions were in the most dangerous areas of Iraq. During the first few weeks in country, B BTRY lost two of its soldiers within eight days of each other and had five soldiers wounded in action but continued its mission at hand. The unit returned on May 4, 2008.
The cache is located in an ammo box and there is a log book and trade items inside cache. Please write in the logbook and note what item you take and leave. Please return the box back to its location. After locating the cache, visit the memorial at the armory. Since my husband was part of this unit and I was involved in creating the memorial, All Gave Some and Some Gave All, I wanted to place a cache near it so that people would visit and honor the men and women who gave some and the two soldiers who gave all defending our freedom. Take time to visit!
