Geocache Description:

From Llanrwst, turn up Parry Road and follow the signs to Llanddoged. St Doged’s Church is on the left hand side as you enter the village. There is limited parking on the roadside.
As with most churchyards, please take care when you walk around as the ground can be uneven. Also please try to walk around the graves rather than over them.

So why “Frenin’s Find”?

St Doged was a Welsh king. Historians believe he was the son of Cedig, and grandson of Tegid Foel, Lord of Penllyn. Doged was slain by king Cilydd, who wanted Doged’s wife as his own.
People believe the original church here at St Doged’s was built as a ‘martyrium’ (in honour) to him. The Welsh word ‘llan’ means enclosure (hence Llanddoged means Doged’s enclosure), and the church probably marks the place where his tomb or relics are buried. The Welsh for king Doged is “Doged Frenin” – hence Frenin’s Find!

St Doged’s Church holds many more tales and secrets, why not pop in if you have time? The Church welcomes visitors and is open daily between 10am & 5pm. Whilst looking around, please remember that they are places of worship and contemplation, and the heritage is much valued by the local communities.

The cache is a small black container and it has a logbook, slate coin and pencil inside. Happy hunting!
Note: The co-ordinates were averaged out over several readings.
