Geocache Description:

A gentle hike in a little known reserve with some views, to celebrate 10 years of Quasar caching.

Ten years ago today I found my first cache. It was called "Melbourne - Kiwi Connection" and was in an old railway cutting in Clyde. At the time it was one of only 13 caches in Victoria. While I haven't been as prolific as some cachers who came after me, I have still found 2,500 caches in that 10 years, all over the world, and had a great time, seeing a whole range of places I would never have gone otherwise. So this cache, my first hide in 3 years, is to give something back. It's a big cache (10 litre airtight freezer container) with contents that I hope are a little above the average these days. Please swap fair! Believe it or not, when I started, this was about the average size for caches - micros were unheard of, and content was generally a lot better. On the other hand, you normally had to travel quite some distance to find them. A round trip of over 100km to get one new cache would have been normal. The other thing that was very different was mapping - there wasn't any - most GPS units didn't have a basemap and Google maps was unheard of. So you had to work out where it was from co-ordinates and distance/direction from the GPS. The cache itself shouldn't be too hard to get to or find. There are two tracks in to this little known reserve, and they form a circuit if you've got time. It's closer to the bottom track but the top one has some views through the trees. Lots of birdlife here. So, enjoy, and please swap fair. Don't damage the vegetation, and if you're stuck use the hint. It's a traditional hide like the old days.
