Geocache Description:

You do not need to look or walk in any flower gardens. Imagine these days!

Quite a boon this town had. Monument is replica of the last smokestack.

The Smelter Monument is situated at the North end of town where the Waneta Road meets State Highway 25. There is a 16 foot brick smoke stack that displays an informative plaque. It also includes a three-sided wall that holds 22 photographs showing early Northport. Beneath the photos inserted in the wall are some of the bricks from buildings on the smelter grounds. These bricks were made just out of Northport 1/4th mile. On another section of the wall, are blocks made of the slag from the smelter. Numerous old buildings in town used these slag blocks in their foundations.
