After parking on Ashington Road, Ellington, cross A1068 and follow the fingerpost for the footpath which leads up a small incline through the trees.
Please replace the caches carefully so they remain well hidden – Thank you.
The cache is a waterproof plastic container containing a log book, pen and small items to swap.
When you have replaced the cache, continue on the footpath.
Congratulations to thewardhouse for FTF
This circular walk of caches is based on the fabulous children’s book ‘The Gruffalo’ by Julia Donaldson and Alex Scheffler. Since its publication in March 1999, The Gruffalo has won numerous awards and has a legion of fans of all ages. The book has sold over 3.2 million copies and has been printed in over 30 different languages. The story is based on a traditional Chinese folk tale of a fox that borrows the terror of a tiger. It is said that Donaldson invented the name ‘Gruffalo’ to rhyme with the word ‘know’.
Each cache in the series is named after a character in the book. Children familiar with the story will know the likely place for each cache to be hidden. The caches are all traditional boxes which contain a log book and pen, small items to swap and items linked to The Gruffalo.
The series is a pleasant, quiet, circular walk, starting and ending in Ellington.
Safe, free parking can be found on Ashington Road, Ellington – just off the A1068. Care should be taken crossing the A1068 to access the public footpath at the start of the route. The walk follows distinct shingle or metalled footpaths leading to Linton then returning back to Ellington near the small roundabout at the junction with Lynemouth Road. A short walk through Ellington village brings you back to Ashington Road and the final cache.
The footpaths are flat and fairly wide but can be muddy after rain. There is a bridge to cross which is accessed by 5 steps.
I have planned and laid out the series with my good friend, eastlands22.
