Geocache Description:

This Dodd is the only one in the series which does not have a title preceding it. I know it as ‘Dodd Dodd’ or ‘The Bassenthwaite Dodd’. It is probably the best known and easiest to recognize of the ten Wainwright Dodds. It is also the easiest of the ten to reach the summit of – although not the lowest – as it has forest roads and a well constructed path all the way up. In the book ‘A Dictionary of Lake District Place-Names’ Diana Whaley suggests that the name Dodd commonly refers to a steep, compact rounded summit; or sometimes a spur of a larger hill.

The cache is placed with the cooperation and agreement of The Forestry Commission. The cache is close to a sensitive area for nesting ospreys. During the period April to September Cachers are asked to cooperate with any restrictions or closures that may be in place due to the nesting ospreys.

The cache is placed under a flat, triangular shaped boulder, about 25 metres from the summit, in the direction of Ullock Pike, or about 15 metres from the first (or last) acute bend in the path. Please see the spoilers as I wouldn’t want you to come all the way up here and DNF. As ever with me, the cache is a tat free small tupperware box.
