Geocache Description:

Greenway Trail Cache

Parking is available.

Henry Lawton Morrison
August 12th, 1820 – December 11, 1903
Father: James
Mother: Hannah (died during child birth)

Married: October 7th, 1846 to Nancy Pamela Castle.

(exerpt from “History of the Western Reserve” by Harriet Taylor Upton and Harry Gardner Cutler)

Mr. Morrison firmly believed that every citizen owed a duty to the town in which he lived, and a service to the public. Though not an office seeker, he accepted those that came to him and gave to the discharge of such duties all the diligence and judgement that he gave to his own affairs.

After holding several minor offices, he was elected mayor in 1857, an office which he again held several times at later dates. He was a member of the board of education from the inception of the public school system in 1856 until 1866. He served as county commissioner from 1875 until 1879. The last public office which he held was that of councilman, in the years 1896 - 1897 – 1898, being president of the council in 1897 and 1898.

TO START AROUND JUNE 1ST 2012

The Western Reserve Greenway Trail (WRGT) GeoTrail is a 26 mile long paved trail owned by Ashtabula County Metroparks. The trail receives no public funds and is up kept only by grants and donations. It is totally maintained by volunteers so please keep the trail beautiful and as always CITO.

There is a volunteer bike patrol that also helps to maintain the trail, offer information and provide help for visitors to the trail. Feel free to Walk or Ride the trail and do some sightseeing along the way.

Currently there are more than 150 caches along this section of trail. There are many bridges and sights to see. Benches are located in various places along the trail to stop and take a break. For the most part the trail is well shaded and also has a nice pavilion area at the Lampson Rd staging area in Austinburg.

Parking areas are also located at West Ave in Ashtabula, Woodman Ave in Ashtabula, Old Austinburg Rd in Saybrook, SR 307 in Austinburg, Eagleville Jefferson Rd, Station St in Rock Creek and Penniman Rd in Orwell just south of US 322.

The GeoTrail was created by CrazyKC with geocoins funded by the Ashtabula County Convention & Visitors Bereau. In order to earn the Geocoin you must complete the whole 26 miles of trail and write down 2 code words from each mile of trail. Each mile has at least 3 code words. Words are located on lids and/or logs along with the mile number. Once you have completed the trail and have your code words you can receive your coin from ACC&VB located at (GC2ZNZW). You may also Pick up coins at Shannons Mini Mart Across from (GC30A9X).

YOU MUST HAVE AT LEAST 52 CODE WORDS TO RECEIVE A GEOCOIN.

Please note, if you have previously found this cache and are revisiting it in search of code words, then feel free to log a Note for your visit. However, do not submit a new found log as duplicate finds by a user will be deleted.
