Hamilton "Waterfalls Capital of the World"
A few years ago Mr. Chris Ecklund, out of his own money, started giving Hamilton a new brand. Instead of being the "steel city" or the "ambitious city", he started branding Hamilton as "The Waterfalls Capital of the World". Together him and Mr. Joe Hollick began to catalogue all the waterfalls within the city boundaries. Today, they list over 140 waterfalls in Hamilton. Certain times during the year, they, along with volunteers, light up one of the major falls at night. This involves having to carry coloured spot lights into the woods and setting them up. It is a great sight to see at night. For times of waterfalls lighting you can join their facebook page "City of Waterfalls" or their Meetup page (www.meetup.com under city of waterfalls group)
Some are very well known falls such as Webster Falls, Albion Falls and Sherman Falls. Most flow all year long. Some only flow during heavy rains or spring thaw. But all are impressive to watch when they flow.
Many of the waterfalls have caches nearby thanks to a number of local cachers. Flowing or not they are great spots to visit.
The "falls" at this location flows only during the warmer months from June to October.
Visiting this cache site, you are in a pretty obvious and open spot. It is an easy find so you can grab and dash if you like. There is a spoiler picture if you are uneasy searching the area. You will need to bring your own pencil.
