A Mohawk Trail cache worth hiking for - this is one of my favorite sections of the trail. Suitable for children, waterproof footwear recommended. Cache is a small lock 'n lock with tradeables.
The Mohawk Trail was once part of the Appalachian Trail. The blue blazed trail loops from Cornwall Bridge to Falls Village. This section is one of my favorites, visiting two unnamed (as far as I can tell) ponds and paralleling Titus Mountain Road on state land in the Housatonic State Forest. The terrain is generally level.
Find Yelping Hill Road, the dirt road connecting Music Mountain to Cornwall. Park at the Mansfield Road turnoff (N 41 54.06 W 073 18.279) on Yelping Hill Road, walk past the barrier, and turn right at the culvert to follow the blue blazed trail. In winter, 4WD is critical and may not be enough - walk in from Music Mountain Road (N 41 55.263 W 073 18.934) for a great snowshoe and extra points!
The cache is a small geocaching lock 'n lock with a small logbook pad, several tradeables, and was initially stocked w/ a FTF prize and two trackables. I will try to make sure your hike here is always worth your while.
