Geocache Description:

A cache in the mountains above Salt Lake City.

This cache combines three of my favorite things, hiking with my wife, baseball and geocaching.

It is one of 10 caches I've placed along the Bonneville Shoreline Trail that you can find during a morning or afternoon hike.

There have been 248 no-hitters in the history of major league baseball, 115 in the American League and 133 in the National League. I've never seen one of them in person but I've listened to a couple of them on the radio. Two years ago Jonathan Sanchez pitched one for my beloved San Francisco Giants.

Nolan Ryan pitched 7 no-hitters, a record that will never be broken.

No-hitters in 2011: Minnesota Twin Nelson Liriano pitched one on May 3rd against the White Sox, winning 1-0. Detroit Tiger Justin Verlander pitched one on May 7th against the Blue Jays, winning 9-0. Los Angeles Angel Ervin Santana threw 9 dominant innings on July 27th against the Indians, winning 3-1. He struck out 10 batters. It was the first non-shutout no-hitter in MLB since 1993. Cleveland scored on an error and wild pitch in the first inning.

No-hitters in 2012: April 21st = Chicago White Sox Philip Humber pitched a perfect game against the Mariners, the score was 4-0; May 2nd = Los Angeles Angel Jered Weaver dominated the Twins 9-0; June 1st = New York Met Johan Santana threw the first no-hitter in the Mets' 51-year history, he beat the Cardinals 8-0; June 8th = Six Seattle Mariner pitchers beat the Dodgers 1-0; June 13 = San Francisco Giant Matt Cain threw either the best or second best game in Major League Baseball history when he pitched a perfect game against the Astros, striking out 14 and beating them 10-0 - Sandy Koufax matched that strikeout total in 1965 when he pitched his perfect game. August 15 = Felix Hernandez, Mariners ace, pitched a perfect game against Tampa Bay, winning the game 1-0. September 28 = Cincinnati Red Homer Bailey beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 1-0.

No-hitters in 2013. July 2 = Homer Bailey does it again, he beats my beloved San Francisco Giants 3-0.

Use two cars, park one of them at the op of Terrace Hills Drive and motor the other over to Popperton Park where you can begin your hike. Before you get to the first of the 10 there are three caches placed by other owners that you can pick up on the way, Utah By 5, Juicy Fruits #6, and Tribute to HMC. Just keep finding caches and after you locate the last one you can hike downhill to your car. Don't forget to GPS mark where you parked.

This cache is up above the main trail. In the spring this is the prettiest part of the hike because of all the wildflowers.

All 10 caches contain a Lincoln pathtag. Please only take one.

It takes my wife and I 1:45 to hike from Popperton Park to the top of Terrace Hills Drive. We're in good shape but in our 50s. Cachers will take longer because you've got to stop at each one. Budget 3 to 3 1/2 hours.

I'm hoping that by the end of the baseball season this year the cache will have more finds than the number of no-hitters thrown in 2011.

Have Fun.
