Geocache Description:

All individuals with an interest in treasure hunting are invited to the “Race for the Cache” / Meet & Eat. It will give you a chance to meet and socialize with other cachers in the area.

Event Details
At or before 12:50pm, all teams participating in the Race for the Cache aspect of the event will assemble at an area within the limits of the Perch Fest & Gran Prix taking place in downtown Portage.

At 1:00pm sharp, Each team will be given a “Cacheport.” This booklet includes the coordinates of 15-25 caches, and any applicable hints. All caches will be hidden within the limits of Portage township.

The traditional model of Geocaching will be followed, leaving behind a small trinket in each cache and taking the one that has been left by the previous cacher, but this event does have a twist. When you find each cache, you will also need to copy a unique code onto your “cacheport,” which are written on each logbook.

Once you have found all the caches and have completed your collection of “cacheport” codes, return to the “Race for the Cache” HQ and turn in your “cacheport” to the Portage Parks & Recreation staff.

At 3:00pm sharp, all teams are to meet back at the headquarters whether or not they finished the "race." At this time, the winners will be announced and prizes will be given (50 CUSTOM GEOCOINS to the first 50 participants to complete the race. To be eligible for a coin, you must be present at 1pm to obtain a cacheport and again at 3pm to turn in your cacheport. You must also log all race caches in the time alloted).

After the short award presentation, there will be time to eat, sign the log book, and socialize with other cachers. Food will be available for purchase, or you can bring your own. Therefore, if you're not interested in participating in the "race" but just want to socialize with other cachers and score this event as a find, show up at 3pm!

If you don’t have enough time to finish the race, don’t worry! The race caches will be permanently placed for you to come back and experience more of our area at another time. I will ask the Reviewer to wait to publish these caches until August 15th so that everyone participating in the event has a chance to score some FTFs!!
