MARK YOUR CALENDARS!! Mark your Calendars!!! Mark your Calendars!
The Hazard and Perry County Tour geocaching Event took a the year off last year, but is now back for another great year and big event.
I hope you make plans to attend!
Everyone, Mark your calendars once again!!!!!! October the 14th, 15th, and 16th 2011, is another, a fifth,“Big” Geocaching Weekend Event in Hazard City/Perry County, Kentucky in Eastern, Kentucky for the fifth year.
The event is going to be called “The Hazard City/Perry County Tour V.” I, Kentucky Trio, and other members of The Big Sandy Area Geocachers, are working with The Hazard City/Perry County Department of Tourism to host this “Big “ weekend event and would like to invite and welcome any and all geocachers to this big event!!!!!.
We currently have 200-250 active caches in Hazard and Perry County at this time and will have more, which will become permanent on October the 14th, 2011. There will not be any temporary caches this year for the event. These caches will be located throughout Hazard City and Perry County.
Perry County was formed in 1821. It is located in the Eastern Coal Field region of the state. The elevation in the county ranges from 700 to 2520 feet above sea level. In 2000 the county population was 29,390 in a land area of 342.15 square miles, an average of 85.9 people per square mile. The county seat is Hazard. Perry County is a long county with a lot of distance in between the two ends. These 85-90 caches are located around some places of historical significance to Perry County and Hazard City as well as other places of significance, interest and/or scenic areas so bring your cameras to take a lot of pictures. Our new caches will also be located around some places of historical significance to Perry County and Hazard City as well as other places of significance, interest and/or scenic areas.
We are once again having an event t-shirt for the event which will be different than the three previous years. There will be a small entrance fee for a geocaching team of 2 of $25.00, one person will be $15.00. Each paying team of two will be provided with two t-shirts and any additional t-shirts will be at an extra cost. We are going to try and do some things the same and some a little differently as the other four events. If you have any questions, comments, and/or concerns, please feel free to email me at rmm879@windstream.net.
We are not planning on having a coin this year, but will be having some event signature items. We are also planning on having some pins and other event swag we will be giving away this year.
The coordinates listed are for the start of the event and are the same coordinates as the first event held in October of 2006. Remember, the cost for the registration is $25.00 per geocaching team of two or $15.00 for one cacher. You may preregister online or at the event the same cost of $15.00 for one cacher and $25.00 for a team of two, but we would prefer that you notify us before the night of the event so that we will know approximately how many to expect in attendance. We are going to be purchasing t-shirts and other items based on the number of logs that we receive as to how many will be attending. If you do not want to post a "Will Attend" log on the cache page, please email me with an approximate number of those that maybe attending in your group. If you do not let me know by posting on the cache page or in a private email, you may not get a t-shirt or t-shirts and you may not get some of the swag that all oter cachers get.
Also, please post on the event page that you will be attending.

October is a great time of the year, especially here in the mountains. Leaves are changing colors, wildlife is stirring, the air is cool, not real hot, and the nights can get really cold. While here for this event, we do not want you to just cache but enjoy the scenery, wildlife, and what the mountains of Eastern KY has to offer.
Join us to tour a part of the state which is part of “The Unbridled Spirit.”
