On The Farm :: Drinking Station Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Eclectic Penguin: I've just been informed that Kennyxtone Farm are about to remove the item on which this cache is hidden as they're converting the field into a play area for children.

I've decided that since there's still a good cache the other side of the field, to archive this one. The cache will still be there for a few more days but as I don't know their timetable for removal, I've flagged up archive.

Geocache Description:

The cache container is a small container hidden in a method that should be relatively obvious when at the location. Please replace carefully so that it doesn't dislodge. Dogs are allowed in the nearby camp site, but since this field is regularly used to keep livestock, unfortunately no dogs are allowed in the field in which the cache is hidden.

The Cache

The cache itself should be a relatively straight forward find - the coordinates will bring you to a location as described in the cache's name, with several possible hiding places. Use your common sense and the cache will soon be in your hands.

I would say that this cache is barely wheelchair accessible if approached from the nearby camping site - but help would probably be needed as the field is relatively rough, hence 1.5 terrain.

Since the field is regularly used to house livestock (cows or sheep, depending on the season), please replace the container carefully.

The cache is placed with the kind permission of the land owner who is aware of its location near this public right of way.

Kennextone Farmhouse

Today, Kennextone Camping and Caravan Park is a popular caravan and camping site on the Gower and is the official camping site for the 2011 Mega Wales Geocaching event. The farm itself however is also a working farm has had a very interesting history.

The current farm house is a relatively recent addition having been built in 1939. The original farm house however dated back to 1610 and was considered a valuable historic building, being a fine example of the old Welsh Long House style of building, originally consisted of just a small parlour and a loft room.

This building was donated by its owners to the St Fagans:National History Museum and in 1951 painstaking work to dismantle the original farmhouse brick by brick was undertaken. By 1955, the building had been re-erected in the museum and today forms one of its key exhibits.
