Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Grooving the Cascade Power Trail
The Old Cascade highway takes you from Rossland to Christina Lake.
It goes over 2 mountains, the First Summit (Rossland side) and Second Summit.
Bajabetty grew up spending lots of time on the First Summit. Her parents had property at the begining of the road, and then she had a friend who lived in Sheep Creek (the valley in between the two Summits for years).
Tammy of the Bartsch's has never been over both summits yet. She was really hoping to do that as we put out the trail, but a land slide, and then snow prevented us from getting through on our placing week.
But being Rosslanders. We improvised. There will be the main Grooving the Cascade trail, and then the Detour trail, which will guide you around the landslide.
This is not a 'real' highway. It's a dirt road. When placing we did see another person drive their mini-van over the second summit. Mr Bartsch told us that we were not allowed to do that in their van. To place the trail we used my FJ Cruiser for the second summit. The first summit from Rossland to Sheep Creek is easily accessable by any car. The second summit was not bad, but you probably don't want to take a Prius on it. You can mountain bike, dirt bike, quad, horse back ride or drive this road.
There are NO services on this route, and very little cell phone service. You are out in the wilderness. Expect to see deer, coyotes, and sometimes bears too. Please plan your trip accordingly. There is stream water, but that's it. There is a campsite along the road, with an outhouse. Make sure you have gas, food and water. Help is easily an hour away if you break down.
All caches are placed where there is room to pull over. There is traffic on the first summit, not as much on the second summit. Please do not park in the middle of the road.

There are only 2 caches placed in the valley. We left it that way so no one would be disturbing the local residents. They like their privacy.

Take your time, enjoy the trail, and see what the Kootenay's have to offer!
