This cache is located on the Stiles Cove Path (north) section of the ECT, between Pouch Cove and Shoe Cove. This section of the trail can be accessed from Shoe Cove Road at the eastern end (nearest the cache), or from the west via the trailhead near the post office in Pouch Cove. Parking is available at the end of Shoe cove Road or in the St. Agnes church lot, opposite the post office.
If you choose to approach from Shoe Cove, hike down the old road until you reach the ECT sign. The road itself can be pretty rough underfoot and partially washed out in spots so watch those ankles! On your left, a neat series of switchbacks known as “The W’s” dogleg up to the scenic high country and a coastal meadow. Take some time to soak in the scenery and then grab the cache. Contained a FTF certificate and pin when hidden.
This is indeed a beautiful place but, as with most of the ECT, sections of this trail skirt the edges of high cliffs which may be undercut and fragile. Please take extra care if accompanied by young cachers or pets. Our kids love the adventure of hiking these paths and we feel that their lives are richer from the experience. Safety always comes first, however, and we insist on keeping them close!
Other great caches in the area include “Andrew’s Racing Cache” (GC2VG42) just along the road near the start of your hike. You can also choose to seek out “Shoe Cove Bridge Cache” (GC28W4J) further down by the beach.
(For those so inclined, there is a shortcut that significantly cuts down on the leg work required to get to the caches on this section of trail. You can drive to the end of Diamonds Rd in Pouch Cove and follow the ATV trail down through the gently sloping meadows to the ECT)
