While Geocaching.com would like to continue to hold the location for you, doing so blocks other cachers from placing caches in the area. We feel that this cache has been down for a period of time exceeding what is reasonable for the area, and thus I regretfully must archive it.

If you are able to get out and replace the cache, simply drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. I will be more than happy to take a look at it to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

Geocache Description:

Welcome Geocachers! This cache is in a small sugar processing plant, however it is long past its hay day. The property is open to the public. Its not the usual cache. And no, its not in a tree.

After a few messages and requests for more information on this cache I decided to research a bit more. This sugar plant was abanded in 1876 by the owner John Lemmingston who died shortly after the mill was shut down. Seeing that this builiding has gone through hundreds of years worth of weather its not in perfect condition. This sugar mills hay day was in the 1860s, and its downfall was the sugar boom in the 1860s that lowered demand in the 1870s a fatal decade for sugar farms, mills, and sales. Make sure you watch your footing as its not terrficly stable. Please if you see any repairs needing to be done contact me so that I can fix them. Thanks and enjoy!
