About the series
The 5.5 mile walk is a circular walk which is based around public footpaths/bridleways on the outskirts of Collingham.
There is a plant nursery and tea room located near cache 25 should you wish to stop for refreshments during your walk.
Attributes are based on the whole walk which is generally quite flat.
Dogs are allowed all round the walk but in some places might need to be kept on the lead as there are nesting birds, rabbits and hares, you may even be lucky enough to spot the odd deer or two.
If you go clockwise as set, you will head off from the station along the road, turning off on to a track often used by dog walkers. You will then head on to the Roman road (now nothing more than a track), which is North Scaffold Lane, then alongside the A46 and back down South Scaffold Lane, these are on public bridleways so they can be done on horseback, bikes can go round but it is a very bumpy grass track so only advisable if you own a decent mountain bike and are quite an accomplished rider!
There is a stretch of about 400 metres near to cache number 9 that is often muddy in summer and in winter will be extremely muddy so appropriate footwear might be a good idea!
As you head off South Scaffold Lane, you head round the roads for a little while but they should be relatively quiet, you'll pass the tea rooms before turning back on to footpaths that lead you back to Station Road and to the beginning.
