The town of Murrayville ‘Gateway to the Victorian Outback’ is in the heart of Mallee country. Murray-Sunset National Park to the North and the Big Desert Wilderness Park to the South. The Mallee was the last region in Victoria to be settled. Why? The area was covered in Mallee trees ( a scrubby drought-resistant eucalypt ) which proved very difficult to uproot and destroy. Any remnant of subterranean root system led to regeneration. http://www.murrayville.com.au/
