Geocache Description:

Wharton Lane is now closed to traffic (except for funerals) would probably not recommend at night.
we chose this location whilst the country park on the site of cutacre colliery is being transformed. Please take progress pics and add them.

this is part of a series of caches circling Walkden and Little Hulton, the hole walk will take approx 3-4 hours. some are very easy to find, some not so easy and some have cryptic clues, rather than "base of tree" etc, you will need at least 1.5 lt of water and some tweezers and a pen pencil to get/log all of the caches.
the average terrain rating is 3-4, you could probably get round the whole thing on a mountain bike, but would have to get of and walk in a couple of places, when we placed the caches there were also some areas which were quite thick with brambles etc so we have increased the terrain rating in these places, I would not recommend doing them alone a night although all areas are accessible 24 hrs. There are a couple of styles to get over at one end of the loop but we have tried to avoid them. Part of the circuit also passes the edge of an open cast coal mine which is currently being turned into a country park. I have not entered a parking place, you could probably start from most of the caches and they all have parking fairly close by. Happy caching we hope you enjoy.

Presbyterian church,
Wharton Lane,
Little Hulton
Lancashire

The church has/had a graveyard.
Church History

It was founded before 1850 and closed before 1980. The old church was in trouble from mining subsidance from the local pits. So they moved the chuch to Highgate after construction was completed. It is thought to be about 1970 when they started to worship there and the old church was pulled down.
The Presbyterian church was influenced by Calvinism which rejected bishops and believed that the church should be governed by a hierarchy of general assembly, synod, presbytery and kirk sessions attened by ministers and elders of equal rank. Presbyterianism flourished in the 17th and early 18th centuries but in the later 18th century many Presbyterian churches adopted Unitarianism.

In 1972 the Presbyterian Church of England merged with the Congregational Church to form the United Reformed Church.
