This cache is ACTIVE. This is a summer-only cache (June-ish to October-ish). Before you look for this cache, you must say its name 5 times as fast as you can, with no mistakes :) The cache is not in plain sight. Terrain can be very easy or slightly difficult, depending on how you approach the cache. Beware: the clay can be very slippery when it is wet.
You are looking for a medium sized, emerald-green, pill bottle with a copper wire wrapped around it. The wire helps the cache stay in place.
This cache is in the beautiful town of Elk Rapids. We visit the beach at Library Park several times a year to swim and brave the “rapids”. The “rapids” are the result of dam-of sorts-that separate Elk Lake from the East Arm Grand Traverse Bay. The dam is cut out in the center and allows the water from the Lake-side to flow at a high velocity into the Bay-side. Kids (and adult-kids :) stand in front of the opening on the Lake-side, are sucked into the rushing water and are propelled into the Bay-side. If you are going to try the rapids, wear tight-fitting water shoes, as the rocks are rough on the soles of your feet. This cache was given its name because in August 2010 (2 months after my 10th anniversary), the kids and I were enjoying the “rapids”. While helping my then 6 year-old son to the opening of the rapids, I had slipped on the clay and broke my fall with my left hand…covering it in wet, slippery clay. I regained my footing and heard my son yell for me because he was unwillingly being sucked into the “rapids”. I reached my left hand forward, he grabbed it but he (nor my wedding ring) were able to hang on because of the slippery clay on my hand. So my wedding ring lay at the bottom of the “rapids” in Elk Rapids, Michigan. So if you own a waterproof metal detector and want to do your daily good-turn…let me know if you find my wedding ring, I would be very happy to get it back :)
Congrats to squawker26 for the FTF! Glad you liked this spot!
