Traditional Cache a short walk from the car park. Elevation 50m.
Park at the car park (N58*14.277' W005*23.992' OS Grid NC 00443 32693 Elevation 35m) and walk (about 300m) to the cache. DO NOT DRIVE UP TO THE LIGHTHOUSE, THIS IS A PRIVATE ROAD!
Cache is a small plastic sandwich box in a black plastic bag.
The lighthouse is surrounded on three sides by huge cliffs and therefore close control of children and dogs is absolutely essential. If the weather is particularly wild we recommend that you do not attempt to find this cache as the wind can be of such a strength here that you will physically be blown off your feet! On the other hand on days like the one when we hid the cache it is an amazing spot for an unforgettable picnic!
Stoer Head is a point of land beyond Lochinver in Sutherland. A lighthouse on the point marks the northern entrance to The Minch.
The lighthouse was built by David and Thomas Stevenson in 1870. It lies 9 miles (15 km) northwest of Lochinver. The former keepers' cottage is available for rent as a holiday house through the National Trust for Scotland.
This area can be very popular with tourists in the summer, so watch out for muggles! Other things that you should look out for are the many different species of seabirds, seals and possibly even whales (see the notice boards at the car park).
If you are feeling like a short walk we recommend the track leading north from the car park up to the communications mast at the top of the hill. If you ignore the mast the view from here on a clear day is absolutely breathtaking, from Foinhaven in the north all the way down to the Isle of Skye! On the walk up the track (and by the side of the road on your drive here) you will notice some brick buildings that look very out of place here. They are the remains of a WW2 RAF radar system called the 'Chain Home Low System' that now provide useful storage for the crofters here and welcome shelter for the cows!
