The kataygi cave is one of the highlights on the Mani in greece.
One of my earthcaches is handling the geological information around
the cave (See http://coord.info/GC2AB8P). Getting information and
visiting the cave is one thing - venturing deep inside it is
another thing. So I decided that this fantastic cave deserves a
physical cache container within it for those you who dare to
enter.
So, when you found the cave near the given coordinates, I have a
few words of warning:
First of all, you enter the cave on your own risk. I will not
take any responsibilities if you decide to do this cache. This
is a very dangerous place so if you are in doubt do not do this
cache for it is like a small expedition.
If you decide to enter mind the following things:
- NEVER EVER go alone inside. At least two persons should
enter.
- Have a third person outside. Fix a time when you will return.
When hiding the cache we needed about two hours.
- At least one headlamp and a strong flashlight per person
entering.
- You will need good shoes - it can be slippery wet.
- Watch your head! Have a helmet or at least some sort of
cap.
- Take some drinking water with you.
- WATCH THE ARROWS WHICH LEADS THE WAY IN AND OUT!
- It is logical, but I want to mention it: Mobiles will have no
signal inside the cave!
Watch the signs inside the cave for they will show the way IN and
OUT of the cave:
So, how can you find the cache? For you have no GPS signal
inside I have directions for you:
First of all, enter the cave. Always follow the sign of hammer
and sickle. Pass the iron gate and go forth to the white
table. |
|
Find the passway (you need to crouch) |
|
After that venture deeper - you will find the white
pyramid.
Caution: When climbing around the pyramid there are the
first basins which can be filled with water. |
|
Looking up at the pyramid you will find some interesting
formations: |
|
Finally, in a larger hallway you will find the dark pool: |
|
|
|
There, above the dark pool the cache is hidden (you want to take
a look at the spoiler picture)
There are also a few guardians in the cave:
Small note on cache maintenance:
There is a local cache guardian who will assist.
