This cache is a very small box at the intersection of Central and North Main streets. This small park contains a fountain erected in 1882 by Dr. Henry D. Cogswell, a San Francisco dentist and crusader in the temperance movement, who believed that if the public had access to good, cool drinking water they wouldn't end up at saloons. Dr. Cogswell placed such fountains in a few cities across America, including Washington DC, New York, and Boston. Today, the fountain is dry, and any water pooled there is rainwater and likely pretty foul -- so don't drink it! ;)
Another lack-of-water connection: This spot once overlooked the Quequechan River waterfall that gave Fall River its name. In the 1960s, the river was moved underground into pipes to make way for Interstate 195.
You can park very close by, but bring quarters for the meter. It's a high-traffic area, so be alert.
Congrats to CaseyToo for FTF!
