Geocache Description:

St Wilfred's Church

St Wilfred's Church, Great Langton, would previously have served an enormous farming community, with local parishioners arriving on foot and by horse from miles around.

The church itself has some good architectural features. The nave was built about 1140, the entrance doorways in the north and south walls being the only remaining details of that date. The chancel appears to be a rebuilding of the 13th century with alterations in the 14th. The building has been restored in modern times; a central tower of 'deal boardspainted black' mentioned by Whitaker in 1823 (fn. 48) has been removed in favour of a modern stone bellcote at the west end.

On the road to the west there is a pull-in by a war memorial to the villagers.

The cache is outside the church grounds. We have left a cliplock box with lots of goodies and a geocoin for the first to find. Please log all DNF's. Good luck.
