Carlton stop - NS&T line
The Niagara,St.Catharines & Toronto Railway was an interurban electric railway based in St.Catharines and had lines to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Port Dalhousie, Niagara Falls, Thorold, Welland and Port Colborne. It operated in from 1899 to 1959. From 1913 to 1931, passengers were carried between St. Catharines and Niagara-on- the-Lake along its route. The rail line was taken over by Canadian National Railway in 1960 for dieselized freight service. During the 1950-1960s residential neighbourhoods developed in the once-agricultural region that surrounded the NS & T Port Weller Spur. There was once a canning factory adjacent to the tracks in the present-day school yard.
