The meadow is located on the former Roberts and Ellis ranches,
adjacent to I-8 and Japatul Valley Road. The ranches were once
slated for housing, but a group from the Descanso area rallied and
raised funds to purchase the property, now open to the public.
Trail access is just before the CalTrans station via a pipe horse
gate in the wire fence. You will travel on an old roadbed north
across a flat, then up thru dense oak woodland. The meadow is the
prize here, it's dotted with statuesque Engleman oaks.
If you walk all the way across the meadow, you'll find the remnants
of a century-old ditch designed (but never used) to shunt water
from Pine Valley Creek into the San Diego River drainage.
You are looking for a small lock and lock container that blends in
well with the location. FTF gets an unactivated Okinawa GC. Please
place the cache back like you find it and use the natural cammo so
others can enjoy the hunt. BYOP! Enjoy.
