Geocache Description:

This is a geocache for people who love railways and old pubs. Walking to GZ will take you to a place in my adopted hometown of Leura, in the Blue Mountains, where you can see both! And there's also a very nice view of the Jamison Valley from GZ.

AKA 'Alexandra Hotel Geocache' . . . one of the historic hotels in the Upper Blue Moutains . . . You can easily walk to GZ from the famous Leura Mall and its shops and cafes, along a convenient little footpath from just above the entrance to the railway station. To your left you'll have a nice view of the Jamison Valley and a perspective of Korowal (Mt. Solitary) will gradually open up. You can also park in the rear car park of the Alexandra Hotel. From the tourist brochure: "The 'Alex' is a most unusual combination of casual and old Leura dining. Amidst pool tables and rock & roll, the bar serves up whopping burgers and fries. In the original and more formal dining room looking out across Jamison Valley, a spicy Thai Beef Salad and other international dishes are featured on the menu. It is easy to imagine the grand old hotel, a hundred years ago, crowded with tired workers needing food and drink. This is a great spot for friends to meet and enjoy the new outdoor patio overlooking Leura." I thought Leura deserved another 'downtown' urban-style geocache for visitors and tourists, and discovered this pictureque place while researching railway survey markers. There's both a pub and a cafe right near GZ. The cache is now named after the Alex Cafe. There's no need to disturb plants and bushes and rocks. You can just walk right up to this one. Voila! It's very nearly wheelchair accessible as well. Hope you'll enjoy the railway ambiance, the old Alexandra Hotel, the nice view to the south, and the whole Leura experience! Finally, please don't dig or scratch around and, for goodness sake, don't even think of going over the wire fence! There's absolutely no need. All that's required are a pair of sharp eyes! (And I've tried to move GZ even further out of sight of the patrons on the Hotel Alex veranda.) Published coordinates are as good as you're going to get. They've been checked many, many times. On any given day, the satellites might put you up to 3-5 metres from GZ. Sorry. Those are the limits of the current GPS technology.
