This cache was placed whilst on a hike with my Scout Troop. Our Scout Troop has been visiting the Nattai Valley regularly for almost twenty years. The cache has been placed in replacement for the previous cache hidden at this location, GC15TDZ (visit link) , which was removed when the NPWS Geocaching Ban was in place. The cache has been placed with the blessing of the owner of the previous cache, GammaPiSigma.
This cache has been placed with the approval of the Ranger in charge of Nattai National Park.
To find the cache you will need to follow the marked walking track to Ahearn Lookout. The track is a 12km (return) journey that can be done as a day walk (approximately 3 hours), or can be done as a relaxing overnight journey. I have also completed this trip as a mountain bike ride. This cache could also be combined with my other cache, lower in the valley. However to take a 'Bee Line' from one cache to the next will involved some very good navigation and lots of rope work. The track is well marked and easy to follow. If you are not confident with navigation then I can supply you with a GPSr track log upon request, however this will knock a couple of difficulty stars off the cache. This is an area for the seasoned bushwalker only. Do not attempt this cache without a map and compass (a mapping GPSr will not suffice). Bring plenty of water and be warned, there are 100+m cliffs along the walk.
When I walked out here it had been raining and there were lots of rock pools of water; this water, however, cannot be relied upon!
Enjoy your walk and admire the amazing views both North and South along the Nattai River Valley. If you know what you are looking for you can see Mount Colong and Yerranderrie Peak. When I was out here placing the cache it was before dawn, and so I have relatively few photos to show of the amazing grandeur of the location.
