Extract from the Otago Daily Times 1884. "Mr Thomson was intimately connected with the history of Otago.

He conducted during his term of office an exploration of the province generally, exploring a large area of the interior.

The physical features of the Dunstan, Wakatipu and other up country districts were made known by him for the first time, and he named nearly all the rivers, lakes, hills etc in the interior of the province.

He held the position of Provincial Engineer for some time and succeeded the late Mr W.H.Cutten as Chief Commissioner of Lands.

In 1876 he was raised to the position of Surveyor-general for the colony of New Zealand."

when the cache was placed their was a very large replica of the map, however recently the vineyard changed ownership and the map has been replaced by a sign "Domaine Thompson". Domaine Thomson Wines is a family owned producer, with vineyards and homes in Central Otago, New Zealand and Gevrey-Chambertin, France. Proprietors, PM and David Hall-Jones are dedicated to making the finest Pinot Noir in two hemispheres – wines that express the individual terroir of each region. The Domaine Thomson crest symbolises PM and David's passion and commitment to this unique "two hemisphere" adventure.

The cache is a camo painted screw top 500ml container placed above ground level. It contains tradeable items plus notebook and pencil.
