This cache is dedicated to the most famous female soccer player in the world - Mia Hamm. She played forward and was known for her quickness, agility and fearless approach to playing. She was the ultimate team player.
Mia Hamm was the youngest woman ever to play with the U.S. National Team at the age of 15. In her career she won 2 World Cups and 2 Olympic gold medals. She scored more international goals than any other player (158) and is listed as one of FIFA's 125 best living players as chosen by Pele.
For the first time ever, Mia won U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year (1994-1996) three times. She was named FIFA Women's Soccer Player of the Year for both 2001 and 2002.
Mia retired in 2004 but has not remained idle. She started the Mia Hamm Foundation which raises funds and makes charitable grants to organizations dedicated to battling bone marrow diseases. It also aids in the further development of programs and initiatives for young women in sports.
This cache is located in a small park with a playground and mini soccer field where under 10 year old children play. Stealth will be required if a game or practice is in play. There is a small memorial under a tree that you may wish to read.
