This cemetary is noted in shasta county historical records as Portugese Flat/ Baker Memorial cemetary.The earliest grave site dates back to 1864... John Vart! I grew up in this area and remember many of the people interred here. Everett Baker and his wife Rose were an old Indian couple that raised cattle and lived right across the freeway. I enjoyed doing chores for them as a young man. The stories of the gold mining and the history of the area still engraved in my mind. Another memory is of Frank Berg WWI veteran who lived in an old shack, just up the road from this site. An old Swiss man who always shared wild stories of the history of this area. May they all RIP!
