Sherwoods Wood is a nice little woody area just behind Oxhey Grange playing fields (where you can park). This cache isn't too hard to find, but you will have to do some detective work in order to find it...
Take care if the ground is wet, or it has rained recently, as it can get rather muddy in the area where the cache is hidden.
The coordinates you reach aren't where the cache is hidden, but it is a location where there are some clues to help you work out the coordinates of the cache itself. You will need to write down the new coordinates, and use navigation equipment (GPS, satnav, phone, etc) and a program that displays the new coordinates that you have calculated in order to reach the cache.
The coordinates of the cache are:
North: abc(degrees) de.fgh
West: ijk(degrees) lm.nop
Where...
abc ==> 000 + 20 + the number of vertical bricks above the garage door on the right of the entrance to the car park.
de ==> On the left by the entrance to the car park is a telephone pole. On it is a little sign which reads DP and then 3 numbers. To calculate the value of "de", use the last number and the first number to make a 2 digit number, and then subtract 1.
fgh ==> Go to the big white sign by the car park entrance and note the hours you are allowed to park.
fg = the 2 digits of the latest hour that you can park BUT reversed!
h = Calculate one hour later than the earliest hour you are allowed to park.
ijk ==> The same as the coordinates you would see if you were in Greenwich.
lm ==> Look at the the fence on the left when entering the car park. Count the number of slats in the first section on the left. Then count the number of slats on the gate on the right. Add these two numbers together, then subtract 4.
nop ==> Again on the big white sign (where you read the car park hours) is a section about dog fouling regulations. In that section two years are mentioned. Subtract the lower year from the higher year, and then add 130 to that.
Once you have worked out the new coordinates, the best way to go and find the cache is to walk through the car park, then cross the green diagonally and enter the woods that way.
This is the second cache we have hidden in the area, after the first one just disappeared recently. Please feel free to exchange something from the cache with something else, and remember to sign the log book and add any comments. Please place the cache back in its original hiding place so it is protected.
