Geocache Description:

This is another fun hike the whole family can enjoy and its easy to access from Bozeman, MT. The Bozeman Fish Technology Center is also nearby and if you're really feeling ambitious, you can go across the road and hike up to the 'M' too!

The 2.2-mile Drinking Horse Trail opened in September 2008, and climbs 700 feet from Bridger Creek to the summit of Drinking Horse Mountain. The trailhead and parking lot sits across Bridger Road from the "M" trail, see additional waypoints below. There are lots of spots available for parking.

Drinking Horse Profile

From the parking to the cache is approximately 1.4 miles, with about 700 feet of elevation gain. The container is located near the summit. There are a couple different trails to reach the top, one harder then the other, but they both end up at the same place. There's a trail map on an information board after you go over the bridge. If you need to stop and take a break or if you want to enjoy the view there are lots of benches along the trail.

Drinking Horse Profile

When you reach the summit be on the lookout for a picnic table. That's where you'll need to leave the trail and bushwack about 100 feet to container. Since you'll be in the trees your GPSr might bounce around a bit. That shouldn't be an issue since the container is in plain sight.

05/03/2012 - The container might be a little hard to open with your hands, so you might want to bring something to pry the lid off.
