The Crawley Model Engineers were founded in 1962 by a group of engineers working in one of the factories in Crawley. Shortly after its formation, the Club approached the local Council for a site in Goffs Park on which to build a high level track. Permission was granted and an ‘up and down’ track of about 750 feet was built. Two years later an extended section was opened to give a complete circuit of 1250 feet. This required two cuttings and help was given by the Council with a digger and a dumper truck. The railway has continued to run since that date, the original railway sleeper bed being replaced with custom made girders. The aluminium track has a ruling grade of about 1 in 100 with two short sections of 1 in 80.
The Goffs Park Light Railway is operated by the Crawley Model Engineers and provides Public Passenger rides every Sunday afternoon from Easter to October between the hours of 2 and 5 o'clock.
