Geocache Description:

One of an occasional series of caches placed in and around Oxford, usually with a tenuous connection to Lewis Carroll.

The cache is a small tupperware box with space for small swaps and travel bugs.

Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, better known by his pseudonymn of Lewis Carroll, spent the majority of his adult life in Oxford where he was a lecturer in Mathematics. However, it is as the author of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There" that he is best known.

Amongst his other works is the nonsense poem "The Hunting of the Snark (An Agony in 8 Fits)" the plot of which has been described thus: "with infinite humour the impossible voyage of an improbable crew to find an inconceivable creature".

This cache has been placed to celebrate the first Oxford Bioblitz being held on 23rd/24th June 2012 where scientists, naturalists and members of the public will work against the clock to spot and record as many types of wildlife species as they can. Let's hope if they find a Snark that it isn't a Boojum!

The cache is placed in the Angel and Greyhound meadow which is open during daylight hours. This is a water meadow with rivers flowing round it so be careful if you are bringing small children. There is a nice fenced in section with a children's playpark. It is also flooded from time to time and can be quite boggy so wellies may be in order (hence the higher terrain rating - when dry it would be a much lower rating.)
