This is another in the Dawdle round Dalrymple series. . There is a well walked path along the river, accessible at various points from the village, How far you walk depends on where you park. . Not suitable for wheelchairs, and only all terrain pushchairs. Take care as obviously this is alongside the river.
In the 1800's nearby stood the Dalrymple Mill, up stream there were a number of other mills making use of the power and energy generated by the river to turn their wheels and machinery. . During the 1900's it fell out of use and no doubt became derelict. By the 1970's, Dalrymple Water Treatment Works had been built on the site of the old mill. This is now gone and there is new housing here but some of the concrete structures can still be seen an the river bank. . Ah now back to the cache, sorry but it is a very sneaky one, I think it will be fairly hard to spot and you will have to get in about the trees and undergrowth to find it. You are looking for a 1960's super skinny model, the one with big eyelashes. And again sorry this bank can be popular for fishing and sometimes they sit for hours, so you may have to come back another time or pop into the local for some grub until it is clear to return. .
