thebuttonmushroom: Sorry but this is proving a hard one to maintain as it goes missing so regularly. That said, nearly 300 cachers have logged it so I'm happy with its success! Time to call it a day on this cache, however. Thanks to all who visited my old university where I, and many others, have very many happy memories.

Geocache Description:

The first of a series of caches placed in honour of universities and colleges across the UK. This one is near Swansea University, where I got my degree in Classics.

Between the years of 2006 and 2009 I studied Classics at Swansea University, and those years were the best in my life. I have decided to place a cache in honour of this university and have started a new series hoping that visitors will want to promote their own university or college with a geocache.

A little bit of history:

In 1920, the University College of Swansea was established along the seafront of Swansea Bay in South Wales, UK, and at the time was the fourth member of the University of Wales. In 1996 it officially changed its name to the University of Wales, Swansea and then in 2007 it became independent and it is now a university in its own right, now known simply as Swansea University.

It is the third largest university in Wales, in terms of students. Aside from its academic prospects, potential students are drawn to the university given its geographical location - it has both a bustling city with a vibrant night life to the east and the award-winning beauty of the Gower Peninsula to the west. On top of this, the self-contained campus is set within the beautiful Singleton Park.

Students can study a ride range of subjects at the university and its schools are Arts and Humanities, Business and Economics, Environment and Society, Human and Health Science, Physical Sciences, Engineering, Medicine and Law.



You are looking for a magnetic nano which can be accessed at any time of day and does not require you to go onto the campus.

If you have a university or college near you of which you are proud and would like to place a cache in honour of, please feel free to expand on the UCACHE series, although please contact thebuttonmushroom first so she can keep a track of the numbers in the series.


NOTE: Please do not extend the series to include schools since individuals looking for caches near institutions where there are children present is very easily misinterpreted and frowned upon.
