Geocache Description:

Broomhill lost village

Broomhill (Originally Proomhill or Promehill ) is a lost village now just a pile of stones amid the weeds on Walland Marsh on the borders of Kent and Sussex, this was once the church of a small coastal town near to the present village of Camber. Apparently this now vanished town once boasted twenty four taverns!

The town and church were completely overwhelmed by a great storm and subsequent floods in 1287, but the church must have been reclaimed since repairs are mentioned in wills as late as the 16th century.

The name still lives on in a number of farms, the name of the beach and the name of the level.
The site is along the concrete track opposite the cache location but no trace could be found on a recent visit to the site due to thick summer vegetation.
Since writing this, i have been out again whilst the vegetation is low and some signs (stones)are clearly visible of the church ruins on the left of the public footpath a few metres before the sewer works. The actual church site is a walk from the cache of approx 0.35mile for those that may like to visit it. Other churches that fell into disrepair and lost in the area are:
Hope All Saints - in ruins by the 16th Century.
Midley Church - fell into decay in 1573.
Eastbridge - deserted in the 15th Century.

Please make sure you replace cache exactly as found.
