Geocache Description:


The Tina part of bretina is a first generation U.S. citizen. Tina's Mother immigrated to the United States from The Netherlands when she was 12 years old. Her family has kept a great deal of their Dutch heritage, and one of those small pieces is that Tina is often called Tineke' (which is the Dutch nickname of Tina) by her mother and husband (the Bret part of bretina :). It's pronounced "Teen-a-kuh". Tina's Grandmother was also named Tena (Trintje formally) and was nicknamed Tineke' .

Tina has visited The Netherlands several times and marvels at the differences in the Dutch people of The Netherlands and Western Michigan. Both have their unique charms and heritage.

Based on her mom's cousins, only 23% of Tina's family lives in the United States, 20% are in Canada, and the remaining 57% are in the Netherlands.

It's important to remember where one came from and to honor that heritage. We've placed this cache as a small token of that.
