During the period between 1882 and 1900, the first settlers arrived in this area opening a post office by 1895. In 1908, the hamlet of Hawthorne was established but in 1927 it was decided to change the name to Inchkeith to avoid cofusion with Hawthorne, Ontario. Over the years, Inchkeith had all the services required at the time. Some of these included the post office, a general store, CNR station, blacksmith shop, stockyards, a garage, sports grounds and grain elevators. The last business to close was the United Grain Growers elevator in 1995. Today the only thing left to remember this once thriving area is this cairn
