Fuente de Orxelles is a recently restored natural fountain that people used to take their clothes to for washing. Close to the entrance of Benissa, it´s an interesting site to visit.
Las fuentes y lavaderos de Benissa, al igual que esta Fuente de Orxelles, se encuentran en la vertiente sur del casco urbano o cerca de él. La Fuente de Orxelles esta a la entrada del pueblo viniendo de Calpe. Las fuentes, seguramente, son muy antiguas, siendo, durante años, aprovechadas sus aguas para el consumo de la población. Se transportaba por "aguadores" con cántaros a lomos de mulos, o por los propios vecinos. Los lavaderos se construyeron a principios del siglo pasado, y además de realizar la colada eran un punto de reunión social, ya que generalmente la ropa se secaba en los matorrales, mientras se producía un tiempo de agradables conversaciones.
The fountain is at the bottom of the hill reachable by paved road. You can park at the top and walk down or just drive down to the fountain. The entrance also has a very steep and slippery part to it, but there´s a rail on the left wall to help you get down. Sneakers or boots are advisable.
