Beide Herrenhäuser wurden um die Jahrhundertwende gebaut und sind
im gleichen Baustil erstellt worden.
Im Dorf wurde von den beiden Häusern des öfteren von den
Simonswolder Villen gesprochen, da es die einzigen im Dorf waren,
die eine Dienstmagd hatten.
Das rechte Haus (71) wurde 1901 für die Witwe P. Kwinkensteen
– aus einer bekannten Simonswolder Familie – erbaut.
Das linke Haus wurde 1896 erbaut. Wenn man die Fassade des rechten
Hauses näher betrachtet, kann man einen Teil seiner Geschichte
erahnen. So wurde die Fassade in den letzten Kriegsmonaten 1945
durch einen Tieffliegerangriff einer kanadischen Mustang
beschädigt. Die Ausbesserungsarbeiten und Einschusslöcher sind
heute noch erkennbar. Der Tieffliegerangriff galt einer
Milchkutsche, dessen Fahrer sich gerade noch in Sicherheit bringen
konnte. Simonswolde wurde im frühen Mittelalter gegründet,
allerdings lag der alte Ort etwas weiter im Süden. Wahrscheinlich
wurde es aufgrund der schweren Luciaflut 1287 verlegt. Simonswolde
muss neben der Kirche auch eine Burg besessen haben, die etwa 100 m
westlich der Kirche gestanden haben muss. Die Stelle wird als
‚Börgstee’ bezeichnet. Simonswolder tätigten viele
Geschäfte auf Jollen über Wasserwege, vor allem nach Oldersum und
nach Emden, über das Fehntjer Tief. Die Simonswolder handelten mit
Gänsen, Butter und jagdbarem Wassergeflügel. Irgendwann riss dieses
gute Geschäft jedoch ab und große Notzeiten führten zu einer
extremen Auswanderungswelle im 19. Jahrhundert. In knapp hundert
Jahren wanderten über 500 Simonswolder nach Amerika aus. Jedes Jahr
am letzten Augustwochenende findet in Simonswolde einer der größten
(wenn nicht der größte) private Flohmarkt statt. So wird am
Samstagabend aufgebaut und die ersten Schnäppchenjäger erhellen die
Nacht mit ihren Taschenlampen, bevor dann am Sonntag der offizielle
Flohmarkt stattfindet. Der Cache ist an einem Privatgelände
versteckt. Die Grundstücke müssen nicht betreten und vor allem
keine Beete platt gemacht werden. Jugend-Muggles mit großem
Zerstörungsdrang halten sich öfters in der nahen Bushaltestelle auf
und während des Flohmarktes ist das Bergen nur unter extremen
Anstrengungen möglich, für die man sich allerdings am
Flohmarktsonntag mit Kaffee und Kuchen vor Ort belohnen kann.

Both Houses were build around 1900. In this little village they
usually refered to them as the Simonswolder Villen because the
families living in them were the only ones who were able to have
servants.
The right hand house (N#71) was build in 1901 for the widow P.
Kwinkensteen she came out of a well known Simonswolder family. The
left hand house was build 1896.
If you take a closer look at the right hand houses fassade you will
be able to see a little bit of its history. In the last month of
World War II a low flying attack of a Canadian Mustang damaged it
while attacking a Milkwaggon pulled by horses. The driver was able
to save himself in the last minute. The bullet holes and bigger
damages of shrapnel are still visible.
Simonswolde was founded in the early middle ages, the original
location was a little bit further in the south. It was relocated
most probably due to the extreme Luciaflut 1287.
Next to the church Simonswolde must have also had a castle which
was located about 100 meters to the west of the church. This
location is named ‚Börgstee’ . Back then Simonswolder
were running their business along the waterways on little boats.
Especially from Oldersum to Emden across the Fehntjer Tief trading
Waterbirds , Butter and Geese. But this trade disappeard in the 18
hundreds and this let to an extrem immigration to the USA. About
500 Simonswolder left to the States in the early years of the
1900’s.
Every year on the last weekend’s Sunday in August there will
be a big flee market taking place in Simonswolde, it is one of the
biggest (maybe the biggest) privat flee markets in Germany. But
already in the night from Saturday to Sunday beams of pocketlamps
will shine through the night on their search for the best buy
although the official start is Sunday.
The Cache is hidden near privat property but you can access it from
the street. The owners and neighbors know about the cache. Please
take care not to trample everything.
Teenager-Muggles with extrem tendency to destroy things are
sometimes hanging out at the near bus stop and during the mentioned
flee market it will be extremly hard to log. Should you have a good
Stealth Mode it will be rewarded on Sunday because you can have a
Breakfast or cake just meters away (only during Fleemarket
Sunday.
